• What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that has been used for more than 2,000 years. It involves stimulating specific points on the body—most commonly through the gentle insertion of very thin, sterile needles into the skin—to promote balance, alleviate pain, and support the body’s natural healing processes.

Over time, acupuncture has been embraced worldwide as a complementary and integrative therapy for a wide range of physical, emotional, and neurological conditions.

In the United States, becoming a licensed acupuncturist requires extensive education and training. Practitioners must complete a rigorous three- to four-year master’s degree program in acupuncture or Oriental medicine, which includes coursework in anatomy, physiology, diagnosis, and clinical practice.

After graduation, candidates must also pass a national board certification exam to ensure their competency and adherence to professional standards before they are licensed to practice.

  • How does it work?

    1. Neurochemical Release:

Acupuncture needles stimulate the nervous system, releasing neurochemicals such as endorphins, seratonin and norepinephrine. These chemicals have analgesic and mood-regulating effects.

    2. Modulation of the Autonomic Nervous System:
Acupuncture may influence the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, which control bodily functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion. This can lead to relaxation, pain relief, and improved immune function.

    3. Immune System Activation:
Acupuncture may stimulate the immune system, releasing immune cells and anti-inflammatory substances. This could help reduce pain and inflammation.

    4. Energy Flow (Qi):
Traditional Chinese medicine views acupuncture as a way to balance the flow of energy (qi) through the body. Inserting needles into specific points is believed to restore the balance and promote healing.
