ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture can help by stimulating specific points on the body that activate nerves, muscles, and connective tissue. This stimulation has been shown to increase the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals such as endorphins and neurotransmitters in the brain and spinal cord. Research also suggests acupuncture can influence blood flow and reduce inflammation by regulating the autonomic nervous system. Together, these effects may help reduce pain, improve function, and support the body’s natural healing processes.

Acupuncture may support mental health by influencing the nervous system and regulating stress-related pathways in the brain. Studies suggest it can affect neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins, which play key roles in mood regulation. Acupuncture has also been shown to reduce activity of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, which can lower stress hormone levels like cortisol. These biological effects may help reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress when used alongside standard care.

I became an acupuncturist because it profoundly changed my own life. After developing complex PTSD following a high-stress event while working on Wall Street, I struggled for years with anxiety and depression and relied on multiple medications that never fully addressed the root of what I was experiencing. Through acupuncture, I found a way to regulate my nervous system, heal more deeply, and eventually come off antidepressants and anxiety medications under medical supervision. That personal transformation inspired me to pursue this path professionally, and today I am completing a four-year master’s degree, preparing for board certification, and continuing my doctoral studies at the Pacific College NYC campus so I can help others find the same relief and resilience I did.
